Compete against students around the world in Invent for the Planet - a global engineering competition.
Led by our partner, Texas A&M University, students work in local teams to develop solutions to challenges such as food security, waste management, energy consumption, and flooding. Each team develops a concept, prototype and elevator pitch which they present to a panel of expert judges in Swansea. The judges select a winning team, which is then put forward to be considered for a place at the Invent for the Planet Grand Final in Texas.
This unique opportunity is in partnership with Texas A&M University, with over 40 universities worldwide, spanning 20 countries, and 6 continents. Swansea University is the only UK institution selected to participate, making this a truly unique opportunity to take part in..
In 2019 a Swansea team took 3rd place in the Invent for the Planet Grand Final in Texas, and in 2023 Swansea team H2Grow took the top spot - 1st place and a $5,000 prize. The following year, the Swansea Team were invited to Galway, Ireland to compete in the European Semi Finals, where they took 2nd place.
The competition starts on Friday afternoon where you were become familiar with the Needs Statement Topics and your group for the weekend. You will have until Sunday afternoon to find and prepare your solution with a prototype and elevator pitch to present in front of our panel of Industry Professional judges. The judges will then award 1st and 2nd place, along with a teamwork award. The winning teams presentation will then be shared with Texas A&M who then decide who will be invited to Texas to compete in the final.
