Set in the 1930’s, the reimagining of Anthony Quinn's novel 'Curtain Call' centres on Jimmy Erskine, the Daily Chronicle's most famous and feared theatre critic of the age; David Brooke, with whom he clashes after recently inheriting the paper; and a young actress, Nina Land who is devastated by Jimmy's recent negative review of her. As the three become entangled in a whodunnit wrapped in a Faustian pact, their strange triangle winds tighter and tighter to devastating effect for all those caught in the deadly web of blackmail and betrayal.
‘A wonderful prestige drama that should garner praise for Ian McKellan’s performance. Gemma Arterton is a stand-out as well, as she skilfully navigates how a stage actress tries to overcome personal demons and self-doubt.’ Simone Cromer, Film Threat
Wedi'i gosod yn y 1930au, mae'r addasiad o nofel Anthony Quinn, 'Curtain Call', yn canolbwyntio ar Jimmy Erskine, beirniad theatr enwocaf a mwyaf dychrynllyd y Daily Chronicle o'r cyfnod; David Brooke, y mae’n gwrthdaro’n gyson ag ef ar ôl etifeddu'r papur yn ddiweddar; a Nina Land, actores ifanc sy'n torri'i chalon wedi adolygiad negyddol diweddar gan Jimmy. Wrth i'r tri gael eu dal mewn dirgelwch gyda chytundeb Faustaidd yn ei reoli, mae eu triongl rhyfedd yn clymu'n dynnach ac yn dynnach gydag effaith ddinistriol ar bawb sydd wedi’u dal mewn gwe o frad a blacmel.
